M:Tech x ABRSM: Creative Musicianship
M:Tech is delighted to be an official Creative Partner of ABRSM and helping to introduce the exciting new Creative Musicianship qualification to young learners across the UK.
Founded in 1889, ABRSM is one of the world's most respected music education organisations, with a heritage spanning more than 135 years and qualifications recognised globally for excellence and progression in music education.
Designed for creators and inspired by the way music is made today, the new Creative Musicianship pathway formally recognises composition, music production and songwriting within a structured educational framework. Through M:Tech, learners develop original music through creative multimedia projects while building the musical understanding, confidence and expressive skills that sit at the heart of modern music-making.
M:Tech are proud to have supported ABRSM with piloting the new qualification within our partner schools, exploring how creative composition and music technology can sit meaningfully within a formal qualification pathway for younger learners.
Our partnership reflects a shared belief that creativity can be nurtured, developed and recognised in every child.
Recognition and rewards for creative skills
Through M:Tech, learners explore composition, music production and creative thinking in a modern, accessible environment. As part of their journey, children create original music, develop musical ideas, experiment with different approaches to sound and structure, and reflect on the work they produce.
Rather than focusing solely on performance, the qualification recognises the wider creative process behind making music today, encouraging learners to build a portfolio of original work that reflects their imagination, interests and growing musical understanding.
New pathways into music
These qualifications build on ABRSM’s extraordinary heritage in music assessment, while leaning into the engaging, accessible and highly creative approach that M:Tech has delivered in schools for over 15 years. Together, the partnership helps create new pathways into music for a broader and more diverse generation of learners.
The qualification is open to learners of all backgrounds, experiences and musical interests, recognising that creativity and musicality can develop in many different ways. Through M:Tech, children create original music across a wide range of styles and multimedia projects using instruments, vocals and digital technology, all within a structured educational framework designed specifically for younger learners.
